Product Overview
The MED TECH Pediatric Vacuum Cervical Collar (PVCC) – MT80515 is a pediatric-sized cervical immobilization device that uses vacuum technology to provide conforming support around the patient's neck.
Unlike a fixed rigid collar, the PVCC remains soft and malleable while being positioned. This allows responders to gently wrap and shape the collar around the child's neck before removing the air. Once evacuated, the collar becomes firm and maintains its customized shape.
MED TECH's patented multi-chamber system helps keep the internal beads distributed throughout the collar instead of allowing them to collect in one area, helping provide consistent molding and support.
Pediatric-Specific Cervical Support
The MT80515 is the pediatric version of MED TECH's Vacuum Cervical Collar. Its smaller configuration is designed specifically for pediatric patients. The corresponding adult VCC is sold separately as MT80513.
Key Features
Conforms to the Patient
The PVCC can be applied while it is still soft and flexible. MED TECH notes that the patient's neck does not need to be straightened before application; the collar can instead be gently wrapped around the neck and molded in the position found.
Once the collar is positioned and secured, air is removed through the vacuum valve until the device becomes firm. The fastening system can then be readjusted as needed to achieve an appropriate fit.
Cleaning & Reuse
MED TECH recommends closing the valve before cleaning. Bodily fluids should be rinsed away with cold water before drying, followed by normal cleaning and disinfection according to facility protocol. The manufacturer also states that the collar can be machine washed and dried when its cleaning instructions are followed.
