The Broselow Tape is a reference tape to determine application as well as equipment sizes to use during emergency resuscitation on pediatric patients.  One of the most popular pediatric tools needed with reference at each color bar on the tape informs you of equipment sizes to perform emergency resuscitation. A reference at each weight zone on the tape shows pre-calculated measurements. The Broselow Tape incorporates revised length weight zones based on the most recent National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) data set.  Most current edition of tape | Organized by color | Quick easy reference guide | Pre-calculated measurements

The Broselow® Pediatric Emergency Tape (Model 7700RE) is a widely respected, color-coded length-based measuring tape designed to support rapid pediatric emergency care. Measuring a child from head (red end) to heel, the tape correlates the child's length with approximate weight and assigns a color zone. These zones provide pre-calculated drug dosages, equipment sizes, and recommended defibrillation energy levels, all without the need for manual calculations—streamlining decision-making under pressure.

Key Features

  • Color-coded emergency zones from grey (newborn) through green (≈36 kg), supporting patients up to ~12 years old.

  • Pre-calculated medication, defibrillation, and equipment data tailored to each color zone for immediate reference during resuscitation.

  • Updated 2025 edition includes current dosing guidelines, habitus adjustment for obesity, quick-access medication tables, and enhanced usability features.

  • Ideal Body Weight estimation, preferred for dosing many emergency medications, with optional upward adjustment if a patient appears overweight.

  • Globally standardized tool, featured in leading medical publications and emergency treatment protocols.

Usage

The user places the red end of the tape at the child’s head and extends it to the heels. The color zone aligned at the heels indicates the estimated weight and provides corresponding medication doses, equipment sizes (e.g., airway, IV, ET tube), and defibrillation energy settings. This practical format reduces cognitive load and prevents dosing errors—especially critical given that up to 35% of pediatric EMS dosing errors occur in the field.
